Sadly, three people have passed away in India last weekend while trying to take a dangerous selfie. These dangerous selfies have become insanely popular, however, they could cost you your life and that just doesn’t seem worth it. There were countless incidents in 2015 of selfie-related deaths and it has become more likely to die in this manner then getting attacked by a shark. Let’s hope people come to their senses before more injury themselves!

On Saturday Jan. 9th, 2016, two people lost their lives because of three college students trying to take a dangerous selfie. In Mumbai, Tarannum Ansari, Anjum Khan, and Masturi Khan were attempting to take a selfie on the boulders that lined the rocky beach along the Bandra Fort of the Arabian Sea. That’s when a large wave hit them from behind sending two of the three into the wavy waters. Onlookers began screaming and Ramesh Walunj sprang into action. The large wave had not knocked Masturi off the boulders and with the help of Ramesh, they pulled Anjum out of the water. Unfortunately, by then Tarannum was quite a distance away but Ramesh was a good swimmer and covered the distance quickly. It is unclear if he was able to see or grab Tarannum because the tide swept them away.
Tarannum is still missing but Ramesh’s body was seen floating in the Mahim-Dharavi creek. The police and fire brigade recovered his body and sent it to Sion Hospital for post-mortem evaluation. This discovery has filled the Jaffar Baba Colony in East Bandra and Ramesh leaves behind a wife and three young children.

Also on Saturday, twenty-year-old Abhishek Gupta climbed to the top of Bhimgarh Fort in pursuit of the perfect selfie. This fort is in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir and a popular tourist attraction. Climbing the fort is not recommended but Abhishek wanted the perfect photo that would sadly cost him his life. He slipped and fell during his climb to the top that caused sever head injuries leading to his death. His friends even tried to warn him and said it wasn’t a good idea… if only he had listened. Don’t be foolish and risk your life for the perfect selfie!
